KUCHING: The Sarawak government will never suppress the rights of its multicultural communities and instead, encourages them to stand united.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the state government is providing sufficient allocations for its communities.

“I have read all sorts of statements regarding community meetings being disrupted by police and courts,” said Sim during the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Christmas Gathering 2019 held at MBKS lobby, yesterday.

“We (state government) will not stop the communities from organising their meetings because we know Sarawak is made up of different communities.

Sim acknowledges the efforts made by the state government including providing allocations to the Malay, Chinese and Dayak communities.

“We ask our multicultural communities to utilise these funds by holding community gatherings and to come up with blueprint development projects to incorporate into the state policy,” he said.

Sim said that all of Sarawak’s multicultural societies treasure the peace, love and harmony. The respect everyone had for each other has made Sarawak prosper.

“One of the reasons why people call Kuching the city of unity is because its citizens would find all sorts of reason to unite.

“And for Sarawak, we want to go down the right path and stay united as we have always been,” he added.
