KUCHING: The Kuching Medical Centre Cluster ended Saturday after no new cases were reported or detected after 28 days from the date the last case was reported.

With this, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said that there were eight remaining active clusters in the state — the Engineering Company Cluster with eight cases; Mambong Cluster (7); Stutong Market Cluster (7); Kuching Jetty Cluster (2); Sentosa Cluster (31); Melbourne PUI Cluster (3); Kuching Construction Company Cluster (2); and Satok Market Cluster (4).

They also announced that no new positive Covid-19 cases were reported on Saturday, with the total number of positive cases in the state thus far remaining at 682.

Providing an overview of the Kuching Medical Centre Cluster, the committee said that the cluster was declared on July 17, involving a medical facility in Kuching.

It involved a total of three cases, namely Case 582, 593, and 614, who were tested positive by the laboratory out of a total of 101 individuals (cases and contacts) screened.

“The percentage of infections is 2.97 percent. All three cases involved local women aged 29 and 30. Only one of these cases showed early signs and symptoms of Covid-19,” they said.

“On August 2, the last case in this cluster recovered and was discharged. There were no deaths within this cluster,” they said.

According to SDMC, the Kuching Medical Centre Cluster was successfully controlled within 14 days from the date the cluster was declared. They added that investigations found that cluster’s source was local infection or community infection.

“Sanitisation operations have been carried out by the medical facility and all agencies involved,” they said.

They said that no new cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals on Saturday, with the cumulative total of recovered and discharged Covid-19 cases thus far remaining at 659 or 96.63 percent.

The committee said that four individuals were still receiving treatment in hospital isolation wards, and the death toll remained at 19 or 2.79 percent.
