KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen announced yesterday on Facebook that he had tested positive for the Covid-19.

Currently, he is treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and quarantined for further monitoring based on standard procedures set by the Health Ministry.

Yii said that he was in stable condition and showed no symptoms of the disease. Last March 2 he was in contact with Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu, who has since then tested positive for the same ailment.

The Health Department on Monday night also released Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen’s Covid-19 test result which proved negative.

“The department is also assured that all necessary precautions will be taken including identifying and contacting those who were in close proximity to get them tests if necessary.

“We also reassure those that came into contact with me not to panic but continue to take precautions to avoid contracting the virus,” he said.

Yii was also informed that he had been asymptomatic (symptomless) over the past two weeks, so the risk of him being highly infectious is much lower.

He advised the public to follow instructions given by the authorities and to seek medical assistance if they show any symptoms of the disease.

“Keep social distancing, do home quarantine if possible, avoid any unnecessary trips outside and maintain good personal hygiene.

“In any case, if anyone (whether they have come into contact with me or not) shows symptoms of the disease, seek medical assistance,” he said.
