KUCHING: The police here recently successfully completed the second phase of the Integrated Operation for Special Crime Prevention.

This operation aimed to eliminate and prevent criminal incidents by strategically placing roadblocks throughout the district.

On Thursday, Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said, during the first phase of the operation, law enforcement authorities arrested a total of 10 individuals for drug abuse offenses under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Additionally, 9 arrests were made for property-related crimes and acts of violence.

According to Ahsmon, preliminary statistics from January to June 28 show a decrease of 6 cases in the overall crime index compared to the same period last year. This positive trend reflects the combined efforts of law enforcement agencies in the area.

Throughout 2023, he said, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has diligently investigated 394 cases, resulting in the successful prosecution of 185 individuals involved in various criminal activities. This represents a case resolution rate of 46.95 per cent. However, it is concerning that property-related offenses, especially theft, have increased by 47 per cent compared to 2022.
