Kuching records one new case

KUCHING: Sarawak’s latest Covid-19 case was detected through contact tracing and screening of close contacts of cases 563 and 565.

The state recorded one new case here yesterday, bringing the total number of positive cases to 570.

“Case 570 is a local working as a manager at a construction site in which the two cases involving foreign workers from Indonesia were tested positive on June 18,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the Covid-19 daily update press conference yesterday.

To date, 112 contacts of the first generation and 312 contacts of the second generation had been traced and the source of infection is still under investigation, added the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman.

Meanwhile, there are no new recoveries yesterday, with the total number of recovery and discharged still at 525 or 93.86 percent.

“At present, there are 18 cases undergoing treatment at hospitals, while the Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak remain at 17,” he said.

SDMC also reported 44 new person under investigation (PUI) cases while four cases are still awaiting laboratory results.
