KUCHING: The district of Kuching has not been classified as a red zone and instead, maintains its status as a yellow zone, according to Sarawak Heath director Dr Chin Zin Hing.

He was referring to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s announcement that Kuching has been categorised as a red zone after 41 Covid-19 cases have been detected as at noon last Saturday.

In his explanation, he noted that there were only 39 positive Covid-19 cases in Kuching instead of the reported 41 cases.

“Two days ago, I think everyone had received reports where Kuching was declared as a red zone by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“However, we are still maintaining our status as a yellow zone due to the difference of two cases,” he told a press conference today (Jul 27).

He said the initial Covid-19 report sent to the ministry had clearly shown that Kuching has been classified as a red zone when referring to the figures of the report.

However, he said after a thorough checking, it was found that two of the 41 cases reported was of another district’s which brings the number of cases in Kuching to only 39 cases, maintaining its yellow zone status.

“Unfortunately, we sent in the latest report at the last minute and our officers failed to notify our counterparts in Putrajaya.

“We apologise for the confusion and we would like to inform that Kuching is still a yellow zone,” he added.

On another note, Chin noted that efforts are underway to detect the source of the infections in the Stutong and Kota Sentosa clusters.

“We are still investigating this issue and have yet to obtain information on the sources of these infections.

“We still need to do contact tracing and antibody screening amongst all close contacts for further information and establish a source of infection,” he told.
