Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival starts today

KUCHING: The inaugural Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival starts today (Friday) and it is held at the heart of Kuching City.

The two-day music concert is organised by Grand Margherita and Place Borneo with its main stage facing the Sarawak river that promises two days of great music, open air and indoor food courtyards, arts, crafts, specialty bazaars and activities as well as interesting games for children.

A press conference was held yesterday at Grand Margherita Hotel chaired by the Festival Director, Mark Justin Silvester and Artistic Director, Asif Pishori to introduce performers that will feature during the concert.

Silvester said that a total of 160 musicians from 17 bands originating from countries such as Singapore, United States of America (USA), Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Phillipines and Hong Kong are featured in the event.

Today, the concert features the ‘Smooth Jazz Night’ which features Ernie Watts & the Jeremy Monteiro Organ Trio (USA/Singapore), Andy Peterson (Malaysia), Kunto Aji (Indonesia) and also Sarawak-born Jazz Singer, Diana Liu.

On Saturday, themed ‘Groove Night’, the night commences with Jolynn J Chin from Malaysia and features band such as Baihana (the Philippines), Andy Peterson (Malaysia), Abdul & The Coffee Theory (Indonesia) and Malaysia’s own Jazz Queen Dato Sheila Majid.

Day one expects a total admissions of 1,500 whereas day two is expecting a total of 1,900 admissions, yesterday’s figures showed.

Festival gate opens at 5.00pm while concert programme begins at 6.45pm today and 6.00pm for tomorrow (Saturday).

Tickets can still be purchased at RM130 per day and RM200 for two days (adults) while each daily ticket for children is priced at RM65.
