Kuching’s Borneo Fur Festival woofs its way to success

KUCHING: Over 2,000 guests and their canine companions flocked to the Borneo Fur Festival last Saturday (Oct 14) for a remarkable day filled with fun, delicious food, dance, a dog pool party, and plenty of opportunities for dogs to socialise.

In a press statement from BarkPark Borneo, it said the event was organised by BarkPark Borneo together with Furry Soup Kitchen.

Officiating the event was Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, followed by a parade of the ‘adoptables’ and the resident dogs and a K9 demonstration.

“This event is evidence that there is a large dog community in Kuching and the community’s effort to fundraise the extension of the foster care facility for dogs and puppies, their core vaccination and neutering.

“There were 35 vendors of assorted food and products including Kyujin’s Sake & Oyster Bar, Ironwood Valley traditional highland food, crispy pork mantou, Binging Eats, FED, Pinggai’s BBQ seafood, Ulam Kampung Table and many more. Most food and drinks were quickly sold out,” the statement read.

It added that the event’s corporate sponsors were Kasuma Resort Sdn Bhd, Sri Datai Sdn Bhd, Lawas Highland Estate, Sam J Chan, Borneo Adventure, Chabo and Satoyama Organic Farm.

Following that, the statement added that the Bomba Serian K9 Unit fur heroes, Wilf and Bella demonstrated their capabilities in search and rescue, and they in fact had come right after a rescue emergency of a missing person at ‘The Reservoir Park, Kuching’.

“The Salvation Army family was also invited to the event with 25 children making their appearance led by Brother Jacob and Captain Carmen, they were treated to a meal and refreshments during their visit.

“The crowd streamed in around 3pm and ended around 9pm, greeted by Paw Maid Cosplay by Esther Hu and Rachel. The activities included a dog pool party, face painting for children, best dressed, most handsome and most beautiful canine followed by a dance party for the dog parents,” the statement said.

The statement also highlighted that the vibes at the event were invigorating and infectious, the success is made possible with a team of dedicated committee members and volunteers.

“Everyone seemed like family, the target of the event had been met and it was an afternoon well spent having fun for a good cause,” the statement added.
