KUCHING: The roles of the military, police and the General Operations Force (GOF) are hugely appreciated in the Covid-19 pandemic fight.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Sarawak would face an uphill battle if not for their commitment, sacrifice and professionalism.

He said this when welcoming the new First Infantry Division commander Maj-Gen Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa and Third Brigade commander Brig-Gen Datuk Azhar Ahmad, who called on him at his Wisma Bapa Malaysia office here yesterday.

“You all have played your respective parts excellently in safeguarding our borders.

“As one of the most important strategies in our fight, we need to close our borders to illegal immigrants.

“The military, police and the GOF have done very well as our border front-liners.”

Uggah hoped for such cooperation to continue as the fight was far from over.

He said although the number of positive cases reported in Sarawak had not been many lately, the public should not be lulled into complacency.

“The virus is still with us. We need to be on our guard all the time.”

Both Maj-Gen Dzulkafli and Brig-Gen Azhar pledged their full support and cooperation to SDMC. “The state can count on us to help anytime,” Maj-Gen Dzulkafli said.
