SIBU: A total of 10 contestants for Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu 2024 will be competing at the Sibu Division Pre-Gawai Celebration tomorrow.

The 10 out of 15 contestants secured their places after passing the screening stage and preliminary round at a hotel on Wednesday.

The 10 selected finalists are Sylviana Rinya Galing, Suriana Abas, Nelly Mujan Rogelio, Clarissa Rinya Setian, Deirdre Serena Sendi, Bernardette Sumbang, Venneillise Lee, Cynthia Runai Simond, Manisha Vyonnie Gelebat and Kartina Bagan.

At the screening stage, contestants were judged based on three criterias: beauty (50 per cent), talent (30 per cent), and self-confidence (20 per cent).

The three judges overseeing the selection were the chairperson of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Angelyn Uchi Maseng, deputy chairperson of the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu Johnady Janton, and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Councillor Donna Petrus Ngelai.

The Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu 2024 champion will receive RM4,000 along with a crown, a sash, a trophy, a hamper and a participation certificate while the second place winner will get RM3,000 along with a sash, a trophy, a hamper and a participation certificate.

Meanwhile, the third place winner will bring home RM2,000 along with a sash, a trophy, a hamper and a participation certificate.

The consolation prizes will be handed to winners from the fourth to tenth places. Each will take home RM800 and a participation certificate. This event is jointly organised by SDNU Sibu, SIDS Sibu, Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Sibu, and the Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA) Sibu.

Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi who is the Minister of Works and is also Kapit MP, will officiate at the event, which will start at 7 pm.
