Labourer fined for making death threats against sister

KUCHING: A labourer was fined RM2,500, in default four months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court here on Friday (April 29) for threatening to kill his sister.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar sentenced Mohamad Sahmin Sulong, 39, after the latter pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for intentionally making threats to kill his 36-year-old sister at a house in Kampung Haji Baki on Jan 27 at about 2pm.

According to the facts of the case, the incident happened because the accused was unhappy with the complainant who chided him for always asking money from their parents.

The complainant then lodged a police report that led to the arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, for another charge, Mohamad Sahmin was sentenced to five months in jail for drug abuse two years ago.

Based on the charge, he took amphetamine and methamphetamine at his residence in Kampung Haji Baki around 4.57pm on July 30, 2020.

He was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15 (1) of the same Act.

Magistrate Zaiton placed the accused under police surveillance for two years after serving the prison sentence.
