SIBU: An amorous labourer who caused grievous hurt to a 30-year-old woman will have to spend eight years behind bars.

And that’s not all, he will also receive three lashes of the cane.

The Kapit Sessions Court imposed the sentence on the accused. Sibu-based Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan, who was presiding over the case, convicted Daniel, 22, from Song, of the offence.

The court heard that Daniel had stabbed the victim with a knife, causing her to suffer 10 days of severe pain.

The incident occurred at a primary school quarters in Song district, at 2.15am on May 27.

Police investigation revealed that the accused had trespassed into the quarters and entered the victim’s bedroom with a knife and outraged her modesty by groping and kissing her. The victim was asleep then.

The court heard that the victim was rudely awakened and she screamed for help. A struggle then ensued, leading to the stabbing of the victim.
