Labourer gets seven months for breaking into house, theft

KUCHING: A labourer was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here on today (May 11) for breaking into a house and stealing a pair of sports shoes.

Senior Assistant Court Registrar sitting as First Class Magistrate, Sandy Yvette Freddy sentenced Mohd Azlan Liza, 34, from Kampung Segedup after he pleaded guilty to two charges.

He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code for stealing a pair of sports shoes belonging to the female victim.

Meanwhile, in the second charge, Azlan was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code for breaking into the house of the male victim (the complainant) in Taman Desa Paul, Jalan Kuching-Serian, at about 8.30pm on May 8.

Sandy sentenced Azlan to seven months in prison for the first charge and three months in prison for the second charge.

In addition, the court ordered the accused to serve the prison sentence concurrently.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
