BELADIN: Labourers and fishermen were among six arrested in a Special Screening Operation here on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse on Tuesday.
Betong District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Zamry Alli said all of them were detained at four separate locations and the initial urine test found they were positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“The first suspect was a man arrested at the RGC Beladin fishermen’s housing at about 1.00 pm in the operation conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) of the Betong District Police Headquarters (IPD).
“Police found a black zipped bag carried around his body and after checking it, each of the six divided tubes contained lumps of suspected methamphetamine crystals with a gross weight of 1.5 grams,” he said in a statement to the media here today.
While five other suspects were apprehended at different locations, they were also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.
Zamry added that all items were confiscated and the suspect was taken to the BSJN IPD Betong office for further action.
For the record, two suspects have previous drug-related criminal records and police are investigating further under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
