Land issues and a briefing session on matters pertaining to Sarawak’s oil and gas will be among the issues to be deliberated at tomorrow’s Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) northern region convention in Miri.

Chairman of the secretariat for the convention, Datuk Gerawat Gala said seven speakers had been invited to deliver talks on related topics at the convention themed “Hak Sarawak Diutamakan, Pembangunan Diperkasakan” (Sarawak Rights Prioritised, Development Empowered).

He said this year, the party was holding zonal convention instead of the usual centralised one in Kuching due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

PBB vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom described tomorrow’s event as a major component in the preparation for the upcoming state election.

He hoped that it would be able to foster closer ties between the grassroots and PBB leadership.

“The special convention for PBB northern zone involves 17 branches. We have four zones statewide,” he said when asked to comment on tomorrow’s event.

Dr Rundi said besides the convention in Miri for the northern zone, other zones would also host their regional conventions in Sibu, Betong and Kuching due to the limit on the number of delegates.

On the Miri convention, he explained, “Among its objectives is to prepare the party’s machinery in facing the upcoming state election as well as brief party members on the developments that have occurred in Sarawak.”

The Utilities Minister also hoped that with clear explanations on crucial matters by leaders on the ground, party members would be able to disseminate the right information to the people to avoid misunderstandings.
