SIBU: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo has described incidents of people receiving their mail three months after they were posted from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu, as isolated cases.

Gobind said this in reply to Sibu MP Oscar Ling at the ongoing Dewan Rakyat sitting, adding that the complaints from the public on the matter were also too general and did not reflect the overall delivery service of Sibu Post Office.

“Pos Malaysia in its investigation revealed that they did not receive such complaints,” he added yesterday.

However, the company, he said was always monitoring and improving the quality of its services. This included either beat patrolling or random inspection at its delivery areas to get feedback from customers,” the Minister said.

“Feedback from customers showed that they were satisfied with the services. At the same time, Pos Malaysia had also conducted a Pos Route Optimisation in Sibu on June 22 to find out which part of its delivery areas needed assistance or to increase its delivery rounds, if needed.”

Gobind clarified that for Sibu District, the company covered a total of 29 delivery areas manned by 26 postmen and for the outskirts, another 26 community postmen trained among villagers to deliver mail from door to door.

“Besides that there are also letters which are dispatched to a total of 1,800 post office boxes, call points and to an appointed community postman where the addressees would collect from him.

“We found out that there are addressees who only collect their mail once or twice a month because they are staying in rural areas,” he explained.

Gobind said though there were cases of late delivery from time to time, this was not a common thing.

“Among the reasons – the address was not properly written down on the envelope and the addressees stayed far away in rural areas,” he added.

He said should there be a backlog of mails, postmen would be called to work overtime.
