KUCHING: Solat Sunat Aidilfitri is not permitted at mosques and surau in areas that are placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said, however, the prayer was allowed at home and among family members only.

“Prohibited activities also include Hari Raya visiting and cemetery visits,” he told a press conference on the latest Hari Raya standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Tuesday (May 11).

The assistant minister said that Takbir Hari Raya and Solat Sunat Aidilfitri were permitted in mosques and surau in localities which were placed under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

Takbir Hari Raya which starts after Solat Maghrib Syawal 1 and must not go beyond 10pm,” he said.

Abdul Rahman said for Solat Sunat Aidilfitri, the number of people allowed was limited to the capacity of the mosques or surau with physical distancing of one metre.

“Worshippers are reminded to wear face masks at all times, scan their body temperatures, register by scanning the MySejahtera QR code or writing in the record books before entering the mosques or surau. No handshakes are allowed.

“They are also advised to bring their own prayer mats and to perform their ablution at home,” he added.

The assistant minister encouraged worshippers to go to the mosques or surau early to avoid crowding at the entrances as only one or two entrances would be open.

He said Muslims in the state were not encouraged to visit cemeteries on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Hari Raya visiting is allowed on the first day of Hari Raya and it is to be celebrated with immediate family members only. The number of visitors (immediate family) at a time is limited to 50 percent of the capacity of the house,” he said.

Abdul Rahman added that prohibited activities included takbir activities from house-to-house, open house, tahlil after Solat Aidilfitri at mosques and surau, as well as feasts after Solat Aidilfitri at mosques and surau.

He urged everyone to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak Fatwa Board, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“The Sarawak Islamic Council may change or amend these Hari Raya guidelines from time to time as required,” he said.
