SIBU: The Sibu branch of Sarawak State Library (Pustaka Sibu) will be officially launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on October 21.

According to its chief executive officer Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, Pustaka Sibu started it services to the public on Sept 15 this year after its soft launch by the chairman of Sarawak State Pustaka Management Board, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, on Sept 14.

“Various programmes have been conducted since its opening and it is currently doing its membership drive for the public.

“For the public’s information, Pustaka Sibu is our new branch for the central region and is a catalyst in assisting the government to reduce the digital divide and preparing the communities to embrace and be part of the state’s digital economy,” she said at a press conference held at Pustaka Sibu on Monday (Oct 12).

She said that the library is entrusted to serve as a digital information service portal for the central region which covers Mukah, Kapit and Sarikei.
