PUSA: Batang Lupar assemblyman Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim has urged the authorities to allow Mohamad Azmeir to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination using temporary identification documents.

According to him, the student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pusa is not allowed to sit for the exam due to not having an identity card since he was young.

“I appealed to the relevant parties to allow Azmeir to sit for SPM with temporary documents.

“We will take care of other things later as the process of getting an identity card takes time, while SPM is only a month or two away.

“Therefore, if I have to meet with Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin, God willing, I can get in touch with him.

“As long as this child is allowed to sit for SPM,” he told Suara Sarawak after meeting Azmeir’s father, Kassim Kiprawi in Pusa on Saturday (Jan 22).

He also hoped that the Pusa District Office could help facilitate the matter together with the responsible agencies.

“Earlier, I was informed by the father (Kassim) that the teenager was getting depressed after being told by the school that he was not allowed to sit for the examination.

“That’s what we’re sad about and this matter should be resolved immediately,” he said.

The adviser in the Chief Minister’s Office admitted that he had helped trace Azmeir’s biological family members along with the UN Women’s Movement in Sibu.

“This is because at that time, the National Registration Department wanted us to track down the birth mother (Roslina Sian) for identity card purposes.

“We managed to trace his family and after that I handed it over to the National Registration Department as the next procedure will be monitored by them.

“And, I didn’t know that until now his birth mother still has not given her cooperation,” he explained.

According to Kassim’s story, Azmeir is the son of Roslina Sian and was raised by him and his wife, Sarimah Chua for about 16 years.
