SIBU: A lawyer here is suing a senior police officer for allegedly slandering him with defamatory words.

Ting Yong Ginn of Awang Chua Voon Ting Ronald & Company Advocates, as plaintiff in the writ of summons, said on July 17 a police team led by the senior police officer raided a pub at Lanang Road.

“I was then acting as a lawyer representing my client during the incident whereby a police officer together with his police team raided the pub at around 11pm.

“(The said officer) had spoken words which were defamatory to me whereby he said to me “Lawyer, selalu pusing pusing cakap”.

“These words were spoken in front of my client and some police officers. So, l felt the police officer has slandered me with these defamatory words.

Ting said he has instructed his lawyer Ben Lau of M/S Lau & Associates Sibu to sue the police officer in his personal capacity.

The reason to sue him is to seek justice and redress from Court, he said, adding his lawyer filed a writ of summons in the Sibu court last week.

His lawyer, he said, had tried but failed to serve the summons on the police officer a few times at the Sibu district police headquarters (IPD) and central police station because the officer was not there to receive the summons.

Ting said his counsel would continue to try to serve the summons on the police officer.
