KUCHING: Three government hospitals in the state received a total of 13 units of powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs) and 139 filters donated by the Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC), the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The receiving hospitals were represented by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) during a handover session at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building on Tuesday.

Present to receive the donations were Deputy Chief Minister and SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Of the 13 PAPR units donated, seven were for Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and three each for Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

Meanwhile, of the 139 filters, 71 were for SGH whereas Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital received 34 pieces each.

Apart from showing strong support to Sarawak’s frontliners, the aim of the donations was also to relieve their sufferings and stress caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The donations were organised by the Rotary Club of Bintulu Central (RCBC) and assisted by the Rotary Club of Kuching Central (RCKC) that acted as Kuching strategic partner.
