KUCHING: SME Association of Sarawak’s newly elected president Jordan Ong Chung Siang assures that he will lead the association to a greater height with integrity and commitment.

SME Association of Sarawak in its press statement yesterday revealed that Ong was the former secretary-general of the association. He won the presidency after collecting the majority of votes from association members in Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Sibu and Miri.

In the statement, Ong pointed out that SME Sarawak has been the voice of the Sarawakian micro, small and medium enterprises sector since 2019, representing members from across the state.

Hence, moving forward he said that SME Sarawak has always played an important role on behalf of entrepreneurs in the state.

“This includes engaging various ministries and regulatory bodies as well as fellow industry players; from information technology, health care, food & beverage, construction, manufacturing, consumer services and retailing,” he pointed out via the statement.

This is to ensure that the channels of communication and cooperation are always active in the pursuit of a conducive ecosystem for SMEs to thrive and drive our economy, Ong noted.

“This is something we hope to build on in the new term as the past couple of years have restricted greater working relations somewhat,” he added.

Ong also stressed that SME Sarawak will also be reaching out to other trade associations, and seeking opportunities to work together on initiatives that can benefit the industry.

“Especially the SME sector, which will be critical to the growth of our economy,” he pointed out.

For the record, the SME Association of Sarawak held its Extra-Ordinary Meeting (EGM) 2022 on July 9, at Restaurant Budaya Sarawak to elect the new Council Members 2022-2025 for a three-year term.

Among those who were appointed were its deputy president Achin Wilson Injau, vice presidents Aw Hun Meng, Andy Liew Zhi Hui and Tony Kiew Swee Leong.
