Learning how to handle fires

MIRI: Civil servants were taught how to handle fires in a ‘Race on Fire’ programme today.

The programme, organised by the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in conjunction with the Sarawak Public Service Innovation Week, took place at the Lopeng fire and rescue station.

Sarawak Federal Secretary, Datuk Mohd Shahabuddin Omar and Sarawak Bomba director Khirudin Drahman officiated at the closing ceremony.

The participants of the programme came from ten federal and state government agencies.

 Among the activities held were ‘Bentang Hos 100 Kaki’, wearing of firefighting suits and personal protective equipment (PPE), and Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) firefighting.

The champion of the ‘Race in Fire’ programme was a group from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).

Two of the participants gave their feedback on the programme held.

Sarawak Information Department (Japen) Designing Officer Mohamad Syazwan Abd Rahman said he was very grateful to be given the opportunity to experience the role of a ‘firefighter’ who also acted as a frontline personnel.

 Mohamad Syazwan, who is also Sarawak Information Club chairman, thanked the  organisers for  the  interesting programme.

Sarawak Japen Information Officer, Hairol Hisham Hamdan said the programme  taught participants to deal with emergency situations. He looked forward to more such programmes in the future.
