Lee assures Riam storm victims of swift aid

A sudden storm on Monday tore up the roofs of at least 10 single terrace houses in Taman Happy in Riam.

MIRI: Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has provided assurance to the storm victims in Taman Happy, Riam here, affirming the government’s full commitment to assisting them in recovering and rebuilding their homes damaged in Monday’s incident.

Lee, who is the Minister for Transport, assured the affected residents that they would receive assistance tailored to their needs, stressing the provision of resources and aid to help in the recovery and repair process.

“It is important for the victims to reach out for help and not hesitate to ask for assistance.

“Today, we have brought officers from the Miri Welfare Department to evaluate the losses suffered by storm victims in the aftermath of the recent incident,” the Sarawak United People’s Party, Senadin chairman told the media during his visit to the victims on Tuesday (Feb 27).

Accompanied by Cr Jeffery Phang and Senadin SUPP staff, Lee outlined their primary focus on assessing the extent of damage to homes.

He explained that through a detailed evaluation process, they would determine the level of support needed by each affected individual and family.

“The evaluation process will be thorough and comprehensive, ensuring that all victims receive the assistance they require to recover and repair their homes.”

On Monday (Feb 26), a sudden storm damaged the rooftops of at least 10 single terrace houses in Taman Happy Timur, Riam, causing panic among the more than 20 residents.

Firefighters from the Lopeng station promptly responded to distress calls, providing assistance and support. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the 10-minute storm incident.
