KUCHING: State Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin wants Sarawakians to play a key role together with the government to develop the state into a thriving society.

He said that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak is on its track to recovery, with a stronger and more resilient economy through the implementation of the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under the Premier has clearly shown its commitment to elevate Sarawak’s economy through the PCDS 2030 and to attain a high-income status by 2030 as planned.

“Under the Premier’s experienced and dedicated leadership, we have seen a lot of people-centric development plans executed and many more are in the planning stage to improve the people’s living standards, including upgrading roads, utilities and internet infrastructures, talent development, hydrogen production and air connectivity with other regions to facilitate logistic and air travel for tourists and business travellers,” he said in his New Year message today (Dec 30).

He the15th general election saw GPS winning 23 out of the 31 parliamentary seats, which showed that the people of Sarawak have confidence in the GPS government led by Abang Johari.

“The GPS government will continue to uphold its responsibilities to protect and safeguard Sarawak’s rights and interests as enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

As for the transport sector, Lee said his ministry will continue to work closely with the relevant agencies for an integrated and systematic urban traffic management to create a safe, seamless mobility and healthy environment.

“Safety is always one of the important aspects and focuses of my ministry. We have launched the Transport-Awareness Behaviour Change (T-ABC) programme to raise public awareness and drive behavioural change among road users, and we will work with the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and other agencies on road safety issues,” he said.

For safety of riverine navigation, he said the Aids to Navigation (AtoNs) had been installed, incorporating the latest and appropriate digital technology to improve safety and ensure security of vessels on the river.

“Also, as a minister appointed by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to coordinate the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee on COVID-19, I would also like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all members of the committee, frontliners, and the people of Miri for their hard work and cooperation provided throughout the journey of combating the pandemic,” he said

He said Sarawak has always been recognised as a model of unity in diversity where its multi-racial and multi-religious society has been living in unity and harmony.

“Our Premier has made it clear that our GPS government will not tolerate extremists, be they racial, religious, social or political which may jeopardise harmony, unity and peace in Sarawak.

“Let’s work and stand together in unity for a better shared future and maintain a very strong and stable Sarawak government which will benefit all Sarawakians, where we can enjoy living in peace, unity, harmony and progress,” he said.
