KUCHING: The Persatuan Anak Istimewa Sarawak (Perais) is appealing to members of the public for contribution towards its newly established Food Basket Fund.

Perais president Rapelson Richard Hamit said the fund was established to help the people with disabilities (OKU) affected by the enforcement of movement control order (MCO) and total lockdown from June 1 to 14.

“The fund will be used to channel assistance to the OKU who are elderly, bedridden and have families with small children. The public can provide financial contributions for purchase of essential items, or they can contribute essential items for the food basket which will be distributed to the OKU,” he said in a statement today (June 8).

OKU families with small children will need essential items like milk powder and diapers, he added.

Rapelson also urged the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to provide food basket assistance to the OKU affected as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the previous year.

“This assistance will be able to help the OKU in ensuring that there is sufficient food supply within this two-week period.

“Members of the public who wish to give financial contribution can do so through the association’s CIMB Bank account (8604183977).

“For contribution in terms of essential items for the food basket, they can contact our secretary Annuar Putit @ Fadelize (014-5819672) or myself (011-19882210),” he said.

He added that receipts for the contribution made should be emailed to perais.swk@gmail.com or a picture can be sent via WhatsApp to the association’s auditor Steve (012-8086989) for recording purposes.
