A woman clad in a PH shirt is seen handing out money to party supporters in the ongoing Cameron Highlands parliamentary by-election. This is one of the pictures that has been making rounds on social media, prompting others to claim that PH has engaged in vote-buying.

TANAH RATA: Any allegation of vote-buying by any party in the Cameron Highlands by-election should be left to the Election Commission and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said both bodies were now independent and the best arbitrators on this matter.

“On my part, enough with ‘husnuzon’ (Arabic for positive thoughts), so I leave it to the authorities,” he told a press conference after having a dialogue session with the Cameron Highlands youth community here, yesterday.

The viralled picture of a woman in a red shirt with the PH logo allegedly handing out cash to some individuals recently during the by-election campaign, has sparked claims by Barisan Nasional leaders that the ruling coalition was engaged in vote-buying.

The claim, however, was refuted by PH stating that the woman was merely handing out cash reimbursement for party members who came with their own transport on nomination day.

Driving his Honda City car, Syed Saddiq arrived at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Golf Club in Brinchang, near here, for his first event before proceeding with several other programmes with the Cameron Highlands voters yesterday.

“I am here as a politician and I want to ensure that the government machinery is not used in the political campaign,” he said, adding that it took him three hours from Kuala Lumpur to reach the popular tourist destination, known for its cool weather. – Bernama
