KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman, Datuk Peter Minos has suggested Jan 1 next year be the starting point to completely open up the economy and social activities.

“After all, by Jan 1 next year, most if not all Malaysians will be fully vaccinated and used to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“They will accept the Covid-19 pandemic as just endemic and learn to live with it like other viruses,” he said in a statement yesterday (Sept 11).

Minos added that with Jan 1 next year as the starting point for the opening up of the economy, the government and Malaysians would have sufficient time to carry out all necessary preparations and actions for economic and social activities.

He said this would be a significant morale booster and something to look forward to.

“Just remember Malaysians have suffered long enough from Covid-19 since March last year and a time must come when they should see a new normal and a new beginning,” he said.

Minos believed that it was humanly impossible to totally get rid of Covid-19 even with the vaccines.

“So, it is best that we just live with it like any other virus — running, handling, and coping with our lives as best as we possibly can,” he said.
