KUCHING: Unity is the key to keeping the peace and stability in multicultural Sarawak, said Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

Lo said the people of Sarawak must stand together and unite “to preserve the prosperity of our beloved Sarawak”.

“Let me remind everyone to always be united and combine all our efforts under any political or economic circumstances,” he said in his speech at the first anniversary and official launch of Batu Kitang Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) branch at Kampung Haji Baki here, last Saturday.

“Indeed, the peace and wellbeing that we all have and enjoyed now is the product of our respect and tolerance for one another in a multicultural society,” he said.

Lo went on to quote a famous saying by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem (Tok Nan).

“As said by Tok Nan himself, ‘Jaga Negeri Sarawak tok bait-bait, jangan sesekali dengar kata-kata sidak yang coba memainkan isu perkauman. Orang Sarawak sik kira bangsa dan agama, semua dah macam keluarga. Ooooohaaa! You you!’,” he said to loud applause.

Lo added that the late Tok Nan had contributed to triggering the spirit of the people defence of Sarawak’s rights as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“Now, CM Abang Jo (Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) as the leading captain of GPS, has promised to ensure the fight to defend Sarawak’s rights continues,” he added.
