Libraries in DCC project visited

KUCHING: Officers from the Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) together with various dignitaries have visited several community libraries involved in the Sarawak Digital Communication Centre (DCC) project.

Joining the site visit last Saturday (August 22) were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali; Deputy State Secretary (Performance and Service Delivery Transformation) Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit; Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) director Dr Morshidi Ahmad; and Pustaka chief executive officer Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, Pustaka said in a statement.

Pustaka was entrusted to be the coordinator of 42 libraries under the Sarawak DCC project, and about 20 of these libraries will be declared open by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) which will be held on October 7.

The libraries visited were the Kampung Pinang Jawa DBKU Community Library; Darul Hana Patingan DBKU Community Library at Kampung Patingan; Joint Operations Room Community Library at Kampung Semerah Padi Phase 1, Jalan Semariang; and Kemas Resource Centre Community Library at Kampung Semariang Batu here.

The objectives of the Sarawak DCC project are to provide an ICT service and support platform, empower the community’s digital skills and build talent capacity, offer supply development to local entrepreneurs, and enhance digital awareness and availability for current and future needs.

Also present during the site visit were other representatives from Pustaka as well as officers from Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE), and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC). Pustaka hoped that with this project, digital knowledge can be further enhanced among the local community.
