Long Lilim thanks state govt for realising dream

MIRI: The people of Long Lilim in Sungai Patah Telang Usan are thankful to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for fulfilling their life-long dream of having 24-hour electricity supply.

“We switched on the lights in our rooms for the very first time earlier this year.  It was a new phase in our lives,” said Long Lilim village headman Freddie Laing at the official launch of the Sares solar project at the village last Saturday.

He added it was almost unbelievable for a village like Long Lilim, which was situated deep in the interior of Telang Usan, to enjoy 24-hour electricity and what made it even sweetener was that it was given free by the state government.

“On behalf of my 300-plus community of Long Lilim, I would like to thank the state government under the able leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tung Openg and also our Telang Usan ‘wakil rakyat’ Dennis Ngau for working hard to bring development projects to us,” he said.

Dennis, in his opening remarks, urged the villagers to struggle harder to improve the economic status of their families.

He also advised the villagers to stay united and work with him so that he could bring their requests to the chief minister.

“Do not listen to propaganda by individuals or parties that want you to hate the state government,” he added.

Dennis also advised the villagers to take care of their solar system and not to simply make wiring connections which could lead to fires.

Also present were Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) Mike Aurthur from the Telang Usan District Office, Cr Jok Eng Jok and head of the BEM Patah Abang District Church Pastor James.

Dennis also commended Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco) and its contractors who completed the work ahead of time despite the distance of the village from Miri.
