KUCHING: National Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen have been accused of often engaging in creative rhetoric and semantics in order to avoid telling the whole truth or escape telling outright lies.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) youth chief and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu said they tried to distort facts at a recent DAP convention in Miri to cover up their failures in keeping their promises which they made to Sarawakians during their 14th general election manifesto.

“For example, they accused GPS of not supporting the amendment bill that was supposed to equalise the statuses of Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya.

“I say again that GPS did not support the amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution (FC) because it did not take into account the recommendations of the Sarawak government,” he said yesterday.

He added that the words “pursuant to MA63”, which is fundamental to the establishment of Malaysia, was not included in the wording of the amendment. MA63 was only mentioned on the footnote.

Rentap said as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari had emphasised that every step taken must be made carefully especially when it is in the interest of Sarawak.

“So I advise Guan Eng and Chong to deliver their promises first before talking about new ones,” he said.
