SRI AMAN: The people of Lingga are urged to seize digital opportunities in efforts to digitise grassroots communities and ensure digital inclusivity aligns with the development agenda of Sarawak.

Lingga Assistant District Officer, Frank Lani said by providing exposure to the community regarding the digital systems introduced by the government, various transactions involving payments can be facilitated and made more convenient.

“The community in Lingga is encouraged to make wise use of the Lingga Digital Community Centre,” he said during the Follow-up Programme on Digitalising Grassroots Communities in Lingga yesterday.

Frank further emphasised that the digitisation efforts in Lingga should involve all age groups and advised the local community not to become complacent with the existing systems due to factors such as limited digital skills and knowledge.

“Utilising existing social media platforms can contribute to the development of small-scale businesses in Lingga, enabling them to compete with other local products.

This includes ‘ikan terubok’, ‘ikan trusan’, shrimp, handicrafts, and other local products, thereby enhancing the local community’s economic well-being,” he added.

Additionally, he voiced his aspirations for the ongoing support of the Lingga community in advancing the government’s vision of transforming Sarawak into a technologically advanced state.

He emphasised the importance of engaging local youth in assisting those who are less familiar with technology, enabling them to actively participate in the digitalisation of the local community.

Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of promoting Lingga as a tourist destination, showcasing the Lingga Regatta as a key attraction.

This one-day programme was organised by the Sarawak State Library and Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak in collaboration with the Lingga District Office and Sri Aman District Council.

It involved approximately ten most active participants (from a larger group). The intensive session aimed to assess the achievements of each group, including the Digital Entrepreneurship Group, e-Government Portal Group, and Digital Community Engagement Group.
