KUCHING: The spirit of cohesiveness is very apparent, especially in Sarawak, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said.

In pointing this out, he commended the effort of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) for their Hana Krishna Food For Life programme initiative, which is giving back to the community.

“I can feel the warmth and receive heartfelt thanks from people of all walks of life, be it the traders, people on the street, or road users.

“I can’t help but feel the cohesiveness that exists among us, especially in Sarawak,” he said after distributing packed foods to traders at the Kota Sentosa wet market here today (Jan 29).

About 700 packets of vegetarian nasi lemak were distributed to traders and the public, which were prepared personally by the volunteers and devotees of ISKCON.

Meanwhile, ISKCON Kuching chairman Reverend Prabu Kripa said the programme is one of their monthly activities and is held either once or twice a month.

Prabu said aside from the 7th Mile market, they will also visit other places such as the 3rd Mile market, the old folks home, the home for the disabled and others.

“It (Hana Krishna Food For Life programme) is one of the charity activities and will be carried out every month. We will also go to different places in rotation.

“We believe that charity is one of the best things we can do for people. Regardless of whether you’re poor or rich, it doesn’t matter,” he said.
