BINTULU: Narcotics police have arrested a local man for possessing 7.6g of suspected syabu drugs on Monday (Apr 29).

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said that the 32-year-old suspect was picked up by the roadside near Martabat Building.

“The suspect is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 following the seizure of eight straw tubes containing suspected syabu.

“If convicted, the suspect could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison, along with up to three lashes of the cane,” he said in a statement.

Further investigations revealed that the seized drugs were intended for distribution in Kemena, Jepak and Kuala Tatau areas, potentially catering to around 25 users.

The suspect will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for methamphetamine.

Nixon stated that this arrest was part of continuous efforts to combat drug abuse and prevent criminal activities in Bintulu.
