SIBU: A local man may be looking at the gallows following his arrest on Monday (May 8) for allegedly possessing various types of drugs worth RM22,729.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 37-year-old was arrested by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) at Lorong Pahlawan here around 8 am.

A body search led to the seizure of three different drugs inside six juice packets and four plastic packets.

“The drugs were 246.28g of ecstasy mixtures, 101g of methamphetamine and 2.10g of ketamine.

“The seizures amounted to a total weight of 349.38g and the value is estimated to be RM22,729,” he said.

The suspect who tested positive for methamphetamine and benzodiazepine, is being remanded for six days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Zulkipli said if the suspect is convicted under Section 39B, the punishment is the death penalty.

If he is found guilty under Section 15(1)(a), the suspect will be fined up to RM5,000 and sentenced to a jail term of up to two years or both.

He will also be placed under police supervision for two years under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
