Local media practitioners to converge on Miri for prestigious awards

More than 80 media practitioners are expected to converge on Miri this Friday for KJA 2022.

MIRI: Some 100 journalists from the broadcast and print media in Sarawak are set to receive their awards at the upcoming Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2022 (KJA) this Friday (Dec 9).

This year, Miri City is playing host to the prestigious event, which has been organised since 1988.

According to organising chairman Andy Jong, who is also the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) and Federation of Sarawak Journalists Associations (FSJA) president, about 80 local media practitioners statewide have confirmed their attendance.

“A total of 461 submissions from both broadcast and print media were received by the Malaysia Press Institute (MPI) for this year’s awards.

“Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to grace the event.

“This year, KJA 2022 offers cash prizes amounting to RM250,000 in 11 categories.”

Also expected to attend are Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Ukas), Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew; Miri mayor Adam Yii, Shell Malaysia chairman Datuk Ivan Tan, MPI chairman Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya, Petronas Group Strategic Communications senior general manager Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Sarawak Asset head Anuar Ismail, Sarawak Energy senior vice-president for legal, land and company secretary James Paul, Sarawak Energy senior vice-president for health, safety, security and environment Marconi Madai.
