KUCHING: Narcotics police arrested a local man for allegedly possessing suspected syabu drugs worth RM1,950 last Wednesday (Feb 7).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the 29-year-old suspect was arrested around 1.20pm in Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya.

During the raid, police found three plastic packets containing 6.15g of syabu on his person.

He added that the suspect, who tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, had two prior records related to drug abuse.

Ahsmon said the suspect is being remanded until Jan 12 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, he may be sentenced to prison for a term of up to five years, and face to nine lashes of the cane.
