KUCHING: Most local universities these days are already on par or becoming better than foreign universities, said Mythnya Abu.

However, she said that it depends on how an individual perceives the matter.

“It is only a matter of perspective. Some people have always been biased against local universities, so no matter what they do they (local universities) will always be below their expectations,” she said.

Mythnya, who is the regional manager of Group & Regional Recruitment at Cyberjaya College Kuching, noted that up to this point, most local universities have already elevated their facilities to meet the needs of both students and parents.

“This is especially important to private universities, as it allows us to compete with other universities,” she noted.

She added that local universities have produced a large number of highly competent graduates since most of them are already equipped to facilitate the students compared to other foreign universities.

“It can be seen that there are a lot of foreign students enrolling at private universities in Malaysia. For instance, at Cyberjaya College Kuching (formerly known as Asia Metropolitan College Kuching) has started to receive applications from students in Brunei and Indonesia,” she added.

When asked about the advantages of attending local universities, Mythnya highlighted on how well-recognised its certification is.

“The certification is certified by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

“With these certificates, parents can rest assured that the courses their children are pursuing are legal and certified.

“This means that students will be able to get a job locally or abroad, depending on the courses that they are pursuing. Graduates of the Nursing Course, for example, can use their MQA-certified certificates to work in other countries,” she said.
