BINTULU: Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd (SIPSB) recently held the third logistics forum meeting with investors in the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) area.

SIPSB in a statement said the third meeting of the logistics forum was attended by company representatives from Press Metal Bintulu (PMB), OM Materials (OM), Pertama Ferroalloys (PFSB), Sakura Ferroalloys (SFSB) and Malaysian Phosphate Additives Sarawak (MPAS).

According to the statement, in previous forum meetings, the port authorities (SIPSB) and investors had highlighted the way forward in improving its performance.

All members had given their full cooperation in finding solutions to improve overall performance of the logistics supply chain.

In this meeting, the agenda was more focused on finding a middle ground and helping to continue the initiatives after the second meeting of the forum last April besides finding solutions to improve overall operational performance.

Through this meeting, the port updated members on cargo volume and ship performance for the first six months of this year which recorded double-digit growth compared to performance for the same period last year.

This positive growth indicates that investors in SIP increased their production associated with the global economic recovery.

Therefore, SIPSB and investors must unite and play their respective roles in reducing issues not only in the port but also in the total logistics chain.

Based on records, there was an 11 per cent increase in ship recovery time in port from April to May this year.

All members agreed that this forum was the best platform to foster greater understanding and communication between port and SIP investors.

Since the first meeting of the forum last January, various initiatives have been implemented to improve operational efficiency.

Some are still ongoing and as a dedicated port service provider, SIPSB will work towards the ultimate goal of improving operational efficiency by having acceptable productivity that can provide service satisfaction to both parties.
