MIRI: The proposed industrial estate for Long Lama will be included in the 12th Malaysia Plan (MP12), said Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources, said the set up of the estate would to be similar to the one in Marudi, but the concept would be adjusted to suit the local environment.

“The estate once established, will become a strategic place for food processing industry and handicraft,” he pointed out.

He disclosed this at the launch of ‘Jum Regista Bisness Sarawakku Sayang’ in Long Lama today.

Awang Tengah was responding to Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau’s proposal on the establishment of an industrial estate in the area.

He also disclosed that the state government planned to increase the capacity of Telang Usan’s water treatment plant in order to boost clean water supply in the area.

“In order to increase the plant’s capacity up to 10 million litres daily (10MLD) the upgrading cost is estimated around RM30million…,” he said.

At the event, Awang Tengah presented financial assistance to 16 small businesses in Long Lama amounting at RM521,000.

He reminded small entrepreneurs in Telang Usan to register and apply permits for their businesses in order to receive assistance from the government.
