MUKAH: It was a busy time for the Road Transport Department (JPJ) office here yesterday and Monday when it resumed operations after closing since March 18 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over 200 people came to the office at Wisma Persekutuan during the two days as Monday was the beginning of full counter service following the conditional movement control order from May 13 to June 9.

In the last two weeks, the department dealt with commercial vehicles only and not private vehicles.

Security personnel, John Melati, said on the first day, people came as early as 6.30am and waited outside the gate.

He said when the office opened, there was already a long queue of people waiting for their turn to enter.

“However, JPJ counter service closed early at 10am on Monday due to certain reasons,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

A check in the record book at the security post manned by John and an unidentified colleague showed that by 10.45am, 184 people had already registered.

John revealed that he had been informed earlier by JPJ staff that counter service would be closed early as well yesterday.
