KUCHING: Businesses that are allowed to reopen in the state can operate from 7am to 10pm.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said economic activities would be adjusted to the normal operating time under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
“On the standard operating procedure (SOP) that has been issued, there are different operating hours for different economic sectors, thus this had caused some confusion.
“For example, shops selling building materials or electrical goods, they often open from 8am to 5pm. So that is up to them. But the earliest (for businesses) to open is 7am and the latest to close is by 10pm,” he told the press here yesterday.
He said hotels are also allowed to operate, and the SOP had been fine-tuned and would be issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture soon.
“For the economic sectors which have reopened, the notification by SDMC (State Disaster Management Committee) is intended to ensure the sector can adopt the guidelines and SOP that will balance economic and health activities.
“This is important because we want to make sure that when economic activities reopen, public health must be taken care of too,” the SDMC chairman said.
Which is why, Uggah said, it is very important for everyone to continue to practise social distancing and strict personal hygiene.
“On top of that, the enforcement team will monitor and assist to ensure the SOP is implemented smoothly.”
