BINTULU: A landslide which happened at 5.28pm last Monday caused Rumah Empaling near Labang River at KM 60, Bintulu-Miri Road to collapse which is endangering the safety of residents of the 32-door longhouse.

Bintulu Fire and Rescue Officer said at the time of the incident 86 residents were in the longhouse comprising 32 men, 34 women, 7 senior citizens and 13 children.

According to the officer, they received a distress call from Empaling anak Tuang who reported the landslide.

Following the report, firefighters were deployed to the scene in a 4WD vehicle led by Fire Officer Clarence Andrew.

After a thorough check of the longhouse, the firemen confirmed that the longhouse is unsafe for occupancy as pillars in the kitchen of the longhouse had collapsed.

For their own safety the longhouse residents gathered at an open space in front of the longhouse before they were taken to a SK Sengian Labang school hall.

Also present to help were fire police personnel led by Sergeant Lawrence Hendry, Sebauh District Officer, Desmond Dauglas Jerukan, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Jenny Banga, Special Officer to Dato’ Tiong King Sing, Ukar Anak Kelayang, SESCO and the Social Welfare Department personnel.
