KANOWIT: Swift actions by folks of Rh Engkulau Jikang Ulu managed to save their 18-door longhouse from being razed to the ground last night (Oct 29).

The fire only occurred in one of the unit’s kitchen areas and was put out by the locals using water.

Kanowit fire chief Arrahman Chik said his men were directed to the scene at Jalan Bukong Jagoi after receiving a distress call around 9.10pm.

Upon arrival, they confirmed that the fire had caused 10 percent damages to the kitchen.

The team only monitored the situation and gathered information. After the situation was deemed safe, they departed back to their station.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
