KUCHING: The first phase of Package Four of the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas) project in Nanga Semah, Daro, which has already been completed and started its operation since last year has benefited several longhouses in the area.

The longhouses benefiting from the project are Rh Ameit, Rh Sipang, Rh Jantai, Rh Belinau, Rh Iboh, Rh Rantai and Rh Endok, according to a statement from the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

In addition to the longhouses, the project also benefited several schools and clinics in Daro.

The Sawas project is an effort by the state government to bring clean and safe water supply to remote areas in the state as well as to ensure that the whole of Sarawak receives such water supply by 2025.

The Sawas project is community-based where the community will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plants, which will also be monitored by JBALB.
