Longhouses destroyed by fire get financial help

MIRI: Three longhouses destroyed by fire received some timely financial assistance from the state government on Wednesday.

Sarawak Administrative Officer for Bario Sub -District Office Edward Tarang represented Mulu Assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala who is also Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department, (Labor, Immigration and Project Monitoring),  at the handing over of the aid to three community leaders at the Mulu Service Centre here.

Gerawat thanked the Resident’s Office, Miri District Office, Bario Sub -District Office, Fire and Rescue Department, and the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for helping the fire victims obtain the assistance.

He said this proved that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is concerned and ready to help the people who had lost their homes in the fire, he said.

Among the villages that received the aid was Kampung Long Balau which caught fire on November 4, 2020.

Its representative, Ketua Kaum Gerawat Tebaran received a cheque for a sum of RM1.61 million.

Meanwhile, Kampung Pa ‘Derung which caught fire on March 19, 2021 received a cheque for RM630,000 which was handed to Ketua Kaum Celeena Sakai and Kampung Long Banga (Rumah Sina Erang Ibuh) which was destroyed on Sept 19, 2020 received a cheque for RM70,000 which was handed over to KK Rhenly Gau.
