KUCHING: The ongoing work to supply electricity to villages in Marudi constituency has been well-received by the longhouse dwellers in the area, said Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.

He said the people were relieved their villages are getting the electricity supply they deserved.

“The dwellers of Sg Peking have expressed relief because Projek Rakyat which was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to supply electricity in the area is being implemented by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

“This is on top of the road upgrading work here which has commenced in some areas in Sg Peking, with work in other areas to commence soon,” he said in a Facebook post last Saturday night.

Penguang, who is also Marudi assemblyman, said the proposed water supply project in the area had been included in the Tinjar Water Supply Package which would be implemented in phases, starting from Sg Seruas. 

Earlier last Saturday, he visited Rh Jampang in Sg Peking to hold a dialogue with the headmen in the area. Among the headmen were Tr Jampang, Tr Ediy, Tr Marcus, Tr Wat, Tr Ludan, Tr Matthias Depa, Tr Caing and Tr Tadong.

During the function, Penguang also handed over minor rural project (MRP) allocations to the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) and associations in the area.

Among them were JKKK Rh Jampang (RM15,000), JKKK Rh Marcus Minggu (RM10,000), JKKK Rh Ediy (RM15,000) and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of SK Sg Peking (RM5,000).

Also receiving their MRP allocations were JKKK Rh Matthias Depa (RM15,000), JKKK Rh Wat Ukat (RM15,000), JKKK Rh Caing (RM15,000), JKKK Rh Ludan Ratih (RM15,000) and JKKK Rh Tadong Besi (RM15,000).
