SIBU: All the heads of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) branches throughout the state must look after the welfare of their members.

PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas made the call when officiating at the triennial delegates meeting of the Bawang Assan and Tamin branches at a hotel here on Sunday (March 27).

Uggah who is also the deputy Premier of Sarawak, said the need was greater in state constituencies that were not under his jurisdiction.

“In such constituency, you as the branch chairman will take over the role of the people’s representative. We want our members to be well taken care of so that the PBB remains strong and its membership continues to grow,” he explained.

Uggah said the party now controlled 47 out of the 82 state constituencies.

“If your members are having problems, let the elected representatives be informed first. Then communicate with the party’s top leader as well. We will find a way to help,” he assured.

He further said that branch heads should always be proactive in caring for the welfare of their members.

During the meeting, Uggah said it was not a matter of electing or re-appointing branch heads as well as committee members.

“We at the top level of the party are also very keen to know the aspirations at by the grassroots.”

At the ceremony, Uggah approved the establishment of a PBB service centre in the Tamin constituency.

He said this was to provide better service to members in the constituency which is a non-PBB seat.

Uggah also called on branch heads to continue to contact community leaders in their respective areas whose service contracts will expire soon.

“Inform us in advance to determine whether they need to be re-appointed or to appoint a new leader,” he said.

He said this included those in constituencies under the representation of other GPS component parties.

Meanwhile on the Covid-19 pandemic situation, he once again reminded the people that the war against the pandemic was not over yet.

“Continue to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as wearing face masks or maintaining physical distance in public places as well as practising personal hygiene.

“Please go for a self-test if you have fever, cough and sore throat. Isolate yourself if you are tested positive,” Uggah said.

He expressed his appreciation to Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee whom he said had done a very good job as the coordinator of the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC).

Meanwhile, Sarawak Premier political secretary Romeo Christopher Tegong remained as the PBB Bawang Assan Branch chairman after winning unopposed in the post.

For the Tamin branch, Meiw Bear was elected as the new chairman.

The Tamin branch resolved that PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg remain uncontested in the party’s general assembly this June.
