Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang hopes the opening of factories at Tebedu Industrial Park will boost economic activities in his constituency and provide job opportunities to the locals.

He said it was his dream to see his constituents earning a living that could support and provide for their families comfortably.

He said when the Tebedu Industrial Park was planned, 133.4 hectares of Native Customary Right (NCR) land were acquired from the villagers to pave the way for the government to set up the factories.

In 2005, 48.6 hectares were prepared for the purpose of Tebedu Inland Port whereas another 84.8 hectares of land consisting of 36 lots for general industries were prepared in 2012.

“Unfortunately, 18 years after the completion of the site, there are still no factories or any industries operating at the industrial area. Not all hope is lost as I placed my biggest hope and trust that industries will be opened and spruced up in the near future.

“I was approached by an investor who wishes to open the first factory at the gazetted industrial zone. I was enlightened by how the application to operate the factory was approved by the relevant agencies subject to the payment of land premium with the rate of RM10 per square foot.

“However, this poses a problem to the investor because the earlier rates were only RM2 for uncleared land and RM5 for filled land,” he said.

Simon said this when debating on the motion of appreciation for the TYT address on the fourth day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday (May 18).

He hoped the state government would award a pioneer status to the first applicant so that the first factory could be set up at the industrial zone in Tebedu.

“It is our fervent and sincere hope that after the first factory is set up, it will attract other players and industries to come and open their factories at Tebedu. This will help the government to push and accelerate the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said.
